San Leandro, California, issues bid for 290 BetaLED/Cree LED streetlights

The city of San Leandro, California, has issued an Invitation for Bids (IFB) for the purchase of LED streetlights. Initial plans involve the purchase of 290 fixtures for installation on city roadways. The new, energy efficient streetlight fixtures will be used to replace existing high pressure (HPS) streetlights. The city plans on purchasing 173 Type II LED fixtures and 117 Type II LED fixtures manufactured by BetaLED/Cree of Sturtevant, Wisconsin.

The city of San Leandro previously installed 270 LED streetlight fixtures also manufactured by BetaLED/Cree. This project was funded by an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Grant (EECBG) of $83,000 from the US Department of Energy. The LED fixtures were installed in the Bonaire area of San Leandro. For the initial installation, the city participated in the LED streetlight rebate program offered by energy provider Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E). The upcoming deployment also qualifies for PG&E rebates, including a revised rate tariff offered for energy efficient streetlight fixtures. The city of San Leandro expects to reduce energy consumption and costs by at least 50% for the LED streetlights.
