Govt to provide solar lights to villages to tackle tusker menace

The forest department has decided to use solar power to contain elephant menace in rural areas.

The wildlife department plans to provide 22,954 solar lights to 54 villages. The lights will help keep away jumbos from domestic areas and agricultural land.

The department will also provide 600 solar street lights, nine watch towers and Dragon torches, which are used for driving away wild elephants, to villagers.

A K Singh, principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF), said the state government is taking all measures to control frequent attacks by elephants in Hazaribag and Ramgarh districts.
